Historic New England is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Designer for a contract-to-permanent opportunity. The role begins as a twenty-hour per week part-time position, term-limited through March 31, 2026, with the strong possibility of transitioning into a full-time permanent role for the right candidate. As Graphic Designer, you’ll help advance our mission by producing engaging designs that connect with diverse audiences across multiple platforms, while reinforcing the Historic New England brand. Strong skills in graphic design fundamentals, typography, and layout are essential. The ideal candidate brings a sharp eye for detail, a passion for aesthetics, and the ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with Historic New England team members to brainstorm, conceptualize and create new design campaigns and/or elements. Designs may be used for print or digital distribution, including but not limited to: signage, digital ads and displays, website and social media, logos, billboards, banners, brochures, direct mail, flyers, e-newsletters, the annual report, and other event materials, and more.
- Ensure consistency and a cohesive look and feel for how logos, fonts, colors and other branding elements should be displayed and used.
- Provide clear communication and work cross-collaboratively with departments from project conception to completion.
- Work with printers and outside agencies on various projects, and ensure adherence to guidelines, timelines, deliverables and budget.
- Support priorities set by the Director of Marketing
- Collaborate with leadership and brand teams to maximize sponsorship and partnership opportunities, effectively communicating the brand's value proposition and key messages.
- Create and maintain relationships with consultants, partners, and vendors as necessary.
- Occasional attendance of community events to build partnerships and relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in graphic arts, design or related field or equivalent combination of skilled credentials, and minimum of three-years’ experience in the graphic design industry.
- High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and manage projects with varying design specifications, tight timelines, and budgets
- Ability to maintain a schedule of multiple projects and tasks, including deliverables and timelines, collaborating and communicating status with internal and external teams to deliver designs on time and on budget
- Ability to accept team feedback constructively, reacting quickly to new information, opinions, and direction, and revising designs when necessary
- Ability to edit images and design assets quickly and efficiently
- Familiarity with current visual design trends and how to apply them
- Knowledge of accessible design
- Knowledge of photo and font usage rights
- Ability to use analytical data to create a results-driven approach.
- Experience developing and implementing content strategies and messaging that support organizational communication objectives.
- Excellent organization and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of three years of experience in the graphic design industry
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, stakeholders, and the public.
- New England residency required by start of work.
- Valid driver’s license and means of transportation.
